Understanding ACEs

Understanding ACEs

Moving From What’s Wrong to What Happened

Kari Docherty

This workshop is designed to give information on Adverse Childhood Experiences. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are potentially traumatic events that occur in childhood. ACEs can include violence, abuse, and growing up in a family with mental health or substance use problems. Toxic stress from ACEs can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress. You will learn about childhood trauma and its effects, and how to work with our youth by using trauma-informed practices.
